'ED IS DEAD - HAMMEL COMES ALIVE'

-  Album: 'ED IS DEAD - HAMMEL COMES ALIVE' -  Label: 'EVANGELINE'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '2001'

Our Rating:
Yes,yes,I realise it's technically an import and not officially released over here until next year, but ah phooey!! If you were lucky enough to pick up a copy of this ace live LP or (even better) see the great man live at your local flea pit, then, well spread the fuckin' gospel, suckers, for Ed Hamell is the sharpest, shitkickin' dude currently residing in the tragedy-hit burgh of Noo Yoik.

"ED IS DEAD - HAMELL COMES ALIVE" catches him in top form, opening for ANI DI FRANCO and ,aside from literally feeling him winning over a potentially-hostile audience, there's 16 snotty, witty, damn unmissable reasons why you just gotta let Ed into your life here. Call it rap, call it acoustic punk...labels are just useless.

Hamell's just an assault course for the senses and with stunning songs like the hilarious "John Lennon", "I Hate Your Kid" and my personal favourite "7 Seas" - about putting down the money for a guitar (and so much more besides)- "ED IS DEAD" comes on like the greatest of all sonic battering rams, outrageous when you consider it's just one geezer with an acoustic.

HAMELL'S official LP,"Choochtown" (with a band) also emerged this year and it's well worthy of your attention too, but for the raw, real deal stop right here. Ed is dead, long live Ed!
