An unusual combination of a clarinet, electronics and Jófríður Ákadóttir's distinctive vocals makes Samaris a most unusual offering.
Still in their teens, Samaris combine downtempo electronica and bold, percussive beats with haunting chant-like vocals - the lyrics culled from nineteenth century Icelandic poems. The result is simultaneously ancient and modern – an ethereal sound filled with dark spaces and alien atmosphere.
As an introduction, One Little Indian will be releasing "Samaris" – a deluxe double vinyl combining their "Hljóma Þú" and "Stofnar Falla" EPs – in July, ahead of a brand new album in the autumn.
Formed in January 2011, within months they had won both the Icelandic Músíktilraunir (past winners include the likes of Of Monsters and Men) and Kraumur Award.
