Review: 'Catfish And The Bottlemen'
'Homesick'

-  Label: 'Communion'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '17th June 2012'

Our Rating:
It’s no secret that I’m no fan of Zane Lowe. His inane sycophancy simply drives me insane. No-one can love every band they play that much. Whatever happened to integrity? I’ll stop before I really start, but suffice it to say that having Zane Lowe’s backing is almost enough to put me off any band without even needing to hear them.

That Lowe’s featured the debut single by Catfish And The Bottlemen in his ‘Next Hype’ section, then, really doesn’t win my immediate approval. ‘Hype’ is the word when it comes to that bozo’s frothing excitement. They lose marks from the off on account of the derivative cover art, and further points are coming off for looking like such a drippy bunch of crets who do biker jackets a great disservice.

‘Homesick’ isn’t awful. It begins like an indie take on ‘Gracelands’ era Paul Simon before bursting into a bloom of cinematic but oh-so-generic stadium rock. No doubt it’ll be hailed for its anthemic qualities.
