It’s the percussion that dominates on the 10 tracks that comprise ‘Lead’, and Thomas Klein’s description of the Sølyst sound as ‘Tribal Kraut Dub;’ is spot on. ‘Glass Danger’ sounds like The Ants powering through a solo while Adam’s away sorting out his face paint, while the sparse, spacious ‘Polar’ builds with some phat analogue synth bass sounds.
Styistically, and in terms of mood, ‘Lead’ brings a broad range: on ‘Magellan’, Krautrock crosses with disco funk, and ‘Spiegel’ is a brilliantly sparse spaced-out space-age groove, an endlessly looping motif swimming in a sea of reverby distraction.
