This is the debut single by new supergroup THE CRUNCH who feature ex-members of (among others) The Clash, Cherry Bombz, Sham 69, Diamond Dogs, Cockney Rejects, Lords Of The New Church, Lolita Pop, Nasa, London Cowboys and Generation X. Yes they are packing some serious power being comprised of Sulo on Vocals and Guitar, Mickey Geggus on Guitar, Dave Tregunna on Bass, Idde Schultz on Keyboards and Terry Chimes on Drums.
They originally got together at an event to promote the book Keep Yourself Alive that Sulo wrote with Peter Karlsson which is an anthology of interviews with various 70's rock and punk stars. They then decided to become a Demolition 23 for the 21st century and this single is the first fruit of this band ahead of the debut album Making Noise With The Boys that is due out in October.
Down By The Border sounds like it could have been by The Psychedelic Furs channeling bits of the Hurryganes and crossed with the odd Backyard Babies tune. It has a good sing along chorus and Sulo's vocals have an endearingly lived in feel to them.

But I have to say Gangster Radio is one hell of a great tune, taking good potshots at how the industry excludes cool folks like this lot. The song again has a good sing-along chorus and is commercial enough that it really ought to feature on mainstream radio and not just confined to the Gangster Radio o the title.
This single is very easy to keep on repeat and hear over and over again like an old friend or a tune you've known for 20 years. It's a great debut single that's well worth pursuing through:
