Handy things, press releases. They make the work of music journalists so much easier. Sometimes, they don’t only include handy pointers and lines ripe for paraphrasing, but also indicate whether or not a release is actually worth listening to.
The press release for the latest offering from Cymbals – which isn’t a cover of The Doors’ track - describes the single as ‘a shimmering seven-minute menagerie of plaintive synths, typically sincere vocals and muted house beats.’ Subtext: it’s bloody awful. I did listen to it, of course, and can therefore confirm that, indeed, it is, not to mention bland and smug with it.
