Another in an ongoing series from this unassuming Middlesex-based singer-songwriter whose deadpan humour and homely tunes won't change the world but will brighten your day.
On his earlier songs, Ivor has presented himself as a man without any grand ambitions who likes nothing more than pottering at home.
Given the driving metaphor of this tune, it's not entirely clear why there's a shot of Ivor sitting alone on a park bench on the CD cover but perhaps he making the point that he does actually go out sometimes.
Whether his words are enough to win the girl are debatable but he is at least polite and realistic: "I beg your pardon, but you might well do without me, but you can also do much better if you kept me on"

He goes on to advertise himself as patient, dependable and a man willing to do good works (like cleaning the car!).
An offer you can't refuse, I'd say.
