Review: 'BURNING HOUSE'
'Walking Into A Burning House'

-  Label: 'Naive Records'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '23rd September 2013'

Our Rating:
Not to be confused with Southampton shoegazers or a Pennsylvanian soul review band of the same name, this particular, and peculiar, Burning House is the pseudonym for "beat-maker" Chief Xcel (Xavier Mosley) and "keyboard wiz vocalist" RV Salters who are based in San Francisco.

Chief Xcel derives from hip-hoppers Blackalicious while Salter, a Parisian, is responsible for electro-jazzy General Electrika.

Their debut release features fourteen tracks of "mutant funk" where cheesy rhythms and throwaway lyrics combine to produce a fairly bland collection of tunes.

The disco boogie of Post Party Stress Disorder is evidently aimed at the dance floor while Frozen Conversations takes a mellower lovey-dovey turn.

The rest comes and goes in a bouncy groove-orientated manner but I can’t say any of it serves to light my fire.
