Review: 'SHAKER HYMN, THE'
'Hunter & The Headman'

-  Label: 'Heavy Noids'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '25th October 2013'

Our Rating:
It’s a rare commodity these days, but young Cork quartet THE SHAKER HYMN have learnt the art of patience early on. Instead of rushing to release something sub-standard, they’ve done it the old-fashioned way, gigging regularly and building up a formidable arsenal of great songs before they considered an official release.

Maybe it’s not the way of the disposable 21st Century world, but it’s definitely been the right decision and when you hear their debut single, ‘Hunter & The Headman’ you’ll know they were absolutely right to hold off and keep us on tenterhooks that little bit longer.

So let’s not beat around the bush. ‘Hunter & The Headman’ is mesmerising. A spiritual cousin of Neil Young’s ‘Powderfinger’, its’ dramatic kill-or-be-killed scenario is played out against a vivid sonic backdrop that cuts from lonely, chiming menace through to blazing, full-tilt rock’n’roll, lifted to even greater heights by Robbie Barron’s passionately wired guitar solo.

As truly memorable debuts go, then, ‘Hunter & The Headman’ is right on target. Get to it before it gets to you.
