“Now I’m lost on the other side of innocence / no cushion from the blow of disillusionment”. These are the opening lines of the album. And that’s about as good as it gets, lyrically, and the vocals are the kind of whiney, emo type that really get on my tits.
It’s actually a pity, because much of the material on ‘All We Left Behind’ is musically interesting and accomplished, with layered guitars creating a dynamic tension against the strong rhythm section. Matt O’Grady’s production is simultaneously sensitive and strong.
Still, ultimately it’s an emo album with a bit of guts. Worth chewing over? You decide.
