Review: 'HELLSONGS'
'Equality (single)'

-  Label: 'Tapete Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '16th September 2013'

Our Rating:
Hellsongs from Sweden began as an acoustic three piece with a brand of 'lounge metal' that rendered acts like Slayer and Megadeth palatable to polite society.

The first track of their fifth album (These Are Evil Times) is a cheesy synth version of Black Sabbath's Iron Man to show that they are not abandoning this novelty road but Equality, the first single from the album, sees them branching out into a sound of their own making.

Described as a "DIY boot in the head of overwhelming consumerism", it's a vaguely unhinged orchestral pop anthem that manages to be both rousing and bonkers.

The tongue in cheek video shows that the band don't take themselves too seriously and the manner of the delivery is full blooded enough to carry it off.

A guilty pleasure.
