Review: 'AUF'
'CD'

-  Label: 'Graumann Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Catalogue No: 'GR-002'

Our Rating:
Busy drums and a frenetic guitar are the defining aspects of the instrumental aspects of Auf’s sound on the five tracks showcased here. High, almost squeaky, female vocals weave and flutter somewhat incongruously around the flurry of percussion and powerstrumming, hectic music that’s bursting with choppy, stuttering guitarlines and stop-start moments that jolt and jar.

The contrasts are aren’t only effective, but curiously emotive and also reminiscent of Band of Susans – certainly no bad thing. They slow it down on ‘Du Und Ich’, which sounds like early Dinosaur Jr but for the female German-language vocals. I’ve no idea what any of the songs are about, but on the whole, ‘CD’ is a very pleasant surprise.
