Review: 'HARAKET'
'İlk Ep'

-  Label: 'Melodica Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '25th November 2013'-  Catalogue No: 'MELOR033'

Our Rating:

The swirling, sexy beats on this excellent EP give the songs a cool late night jazzy groove that could easily be adapted either for the dance floor or the chill out room.

Haraket are a five-piece band from the "vibrant Peckham scene", the same part of South-East London which spawned rising stars King Krule and Jamie Isaac (the latter remixed the group's debut single, Taint).

They take their name and album title from Turkish words meaning 'movement' and 'first' respectively.

After the brief intro of the title track there are three tunes Levelhead, Moment Of Calm and Sea Grids

Abigail Hardiman has a natural vocal style with hints of the intensity of Beth Gibbons and the atmospheric instrumental backing comes from Jack Marshall (bass, keyboards), Wilfred Taylor (trumpet), Ed Bernez (programmed beats) and Ojan (guitar).

On this highly impressive evidence they are onto a winning formula, more like a mature, well-established combo than a band just starting out.
