Review: 'MICHELIN. ANDREW'
'Andrew Michelin EP'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: 'November 2013'

Our Rating:
This Ottawa-based singer songwriter's self recorded, self produced and self titled EP offers four songs which, not surprisingly, are all about him.

The modest collection draws inspiration from folk strands of well established artists like Neil Young or Tom Petty.

Musically and lyrically he keeps things uncluttered without the distraction of a full band backing.

The songs seem to reflect a yearning for meaning and direction in life but on the downside the simplicity of the arrangements exposes the lack any real substance or poetry.

On Everybody Wants To Be A Star, for example, he sings "I went out west to see what's best" which makes its point without exactly being mind blowing.

Bellamy Trees is the pick of the small bunch if only because you can't quite work out what the title refers to. The other two tracks are the more obvious Alright and All My Life.

Not much more than fair to middling.
