Review: 'Kut, The'
'No Trace'

-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '20th January 2014'

Our Rating:
Some three years or so years after they broke through with second single release ‘Doesn’t Matter Anyway’, guitar-wielding grungy post-punk girl trio The Kut return with a new single.

Having been mired in record label negotiations and buried by conflicting advice, they’ve been operating only as a live unit of late – not that it seems to have done them much harm, having won fans and recognition while on our, performing at the 2012 Olympics and winning the public vote in MTV Brand New Unsigned Poll on November 2013.

While the majors drag their heels, Criminal Records have done the only decent thing and stepped in to get new product to the market. Prefacing their upcoming ‘Makeup’ EP, ‘No Trace’ marks a welcome return for the band. Produced by James LeRock Loughrey (Skindred / White Zombie / Sonic Boom Six / My Vitriol), ‘No Trace’ is a darkly brooding track built around a spiralling guitar line and reminiscent of a number of 90s female-fronted grunge bands (in particular ‘Live Through This’ era Hole). Powerful yet restrained, it augers well for the upcoming EP and, hopefully before too long, debut album.
