Review: 'Doom'
'Corrupt Fucking System'

-  Album: 'Corrupt Fucking System'
-  Genre: 'Thrash Metal' -  Release Date: '23rd December 2013'

Our Rating:
The album starts with ‘Stripped, Whipped and Crucified’, which builds from a distant drone to a maelstrom of noise from which a pounding thrash topped with guttural vitriol spills forth. It’s immediately clear that Doom are still in the driving seat as prime exponents of crust punk. ‘Prey for Our Souls’ finds guest performer Andy T deliver a lecture on the evils of society, a rousing spoken word piece backed by a lumbering riff before the band get back to business as usual with ‘Human Meat’, Denis’ incinerated throat vocals melded to driving guitars and drums like machine gun fire.

‘Yes, They Do Still Test on Dogs’ boasts – amazingly – a hook with an intelligible chorus line and a chunky riff that’s almost catchy. It’s necessarily primitive and brutal, of course.

Tribal drums briefly batter a martial rhythm alongside a subsonic bass grind before all hell breaks loose on the frenetic thrasher ‘Suffer in Silence’. There’s no let-up through ‘Eat Sh!t and Buy’ and the title track – a more conventional, sneering punk number – as they vent against consumer culture. ‘Thatchercide’ warrants mention for its sheer ferocity, one minute and nine seconds of seering bile that epitomises all that crust punk and grindcore are about.

‘Corrupt Fucking System’ doesn’t stray far from the classic grind / crust template, but then, since Doom were leading contributors to the creation of that template, it’s fair play.
