That Toranaga have toured with the likes of Manowar, Uriah Heap, Saxon, Venom and Annihilator and enjoyed a brief period of major label success and MTV airplay in the early 90s gives a fair indication of the kind of metal pedigree we’re talking about here. But the story goes, as is so often the case, major label backing was as much a curse as a blessing, and the band found their creativity stifled. They quit Chrysalis and called it a day in 1991, and it wasn’t until 2010 that Toranaga resumed as an operational band.
‘Righteous Retribution’ is, as you’d expect, a proper, full-on heavy metal album of classic, vintage nature. Hard, heavy, riff-centric and bursting with fist-pumping fury, fire and screaming solos, it’s powerful, energetic and relentless.
