Review: 'Crookes, The'
'Play Dumb'

-  Label: 'Fierce Panda'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '3rd March 2014'

Our Rating:
The Crookes are described as ‘Sheffield’s hard-grafting purveyors of incisive indie pop,’ and ‘Play Dumb’ is intended as a taster for their upcoming third album, ‘Soapbox’.

It’s evident they are only playing though because this is snappy, savvy and neatly penned. A dash of Smiths, a pinch of vintage Britpop and some big guitars that propel a big, big chorus all point to one thing: these guys know what they’re doing. They’re also rather good at it.
