Our Rating:
Keep It Sexy by Alexis Kings

The Alexis Kings are apparently a rising rock combo straight out of Verulamium sorry St Albans who want us to believe they are the missing link between Led Zeppelin, The Arctic Monkeys and old skool hip-hop. Thankfully they don't sound as confused as that makes them sound.

Instead they are a throwback to late 80's early 90's mainstream and slightly alternative rock who if they have enough swagger live might just pull it off.

This single opens with 1972 I love the slow bass drum sounds as 1972 opens with its cocaine tales of love as the singer tries to make sure he has enough swagger to be a Cock-rock god in 1972. They preen and pout at us without really getting any essence of 1972 into the track it's more like it's 1987 with Big Country and the vocalist reminds me a bit of The Milltown Brothers for some reason. It's not bad but hardly original.

The b-side Brothers has the singer wailing to get in your Taxi and go because you're my Brother sung urgently over sub mid period Cult bombast before a decidedly ripped off from U2 bit hits in. The drums on this song are far tinnier than on 1972 which is a shame and I do hope that when they play this live the singer isn't waving a huge flag around thinking he might be the new Bono.

This is a not bad single but one thing it fails to do is keep it sexy which kind of defeats the name of the single, as the artwork is the sexiest thing about it.
