'I’m Not / The Next Round'

-  Label: 'This Is It Forever Records'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: '17th March 2014'-  Catalogue No: 'TIIF013'

Our Rating:
It’s been a while, and more than being worried about Satan, I was worried that worriedaboutsatan had called it a day, the duo having become too deeply immersed in other projects, namely their new musical outlet Ghosting Season and the label they established in 2011, This is it Forever.

After four years of silence, this virtual double A-side marks a welcome return. Recorded shortly after their 2010 tour in support of their debut album ‘Arrivals’, these tracks have languished while they turned their attention to other things. And after ‘Arrivals’, this release is something of a departure.

‘I’m Not’ stretched out over a full nine minutes, during which time it flickers and yawns, its soft subtle notes barely there but for a pulse like a heartbeat. It’s ambient drawn down to its sparest, most minimal, and as such, its effect is almost subliminal. ‘The Next Round’ is of similar duration and even more paired back, the beat a single, simple catch on the start of an endlessly pulsed note. Like an aquatic sonar, it penetrates below the consciousness and slowly fades into the darkest depths.
