Review: 'SUMMER HEART'
'U Got All I'm Looking 4'

-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '27th April 2014'

Our Rating:
SUMMER HEART have had 500,000 plays in the last year. The only thing I would say to that is I have played with myself 500,000 times but probably not in the last year (ok Ed, get the scalpel out).

I reviewed something similar last year by a band called Yast from the same country Sweden. It’s lo-fi guitar pop designed to be catchy as all hell. This would appear to be the work of one man as opposed to a band and is probably even more poppy, with regard to the vocals and the guitar work. Once again I wonder about its lo-fi properties. Is it recorded in hi-fi and then the waters deliberately muddied or is this someone battling away with hammer and nails to get the best sound possible? I say this not because it matters, merely out of curiosity.

So the premise is simple. Boy meets girl and simpers. Boy says you can do what you want, I don’t care I’m happy. Boy says “U got all I’m looking 4”. Unfortunately after the song is over she mocks him coquettishly by knocking about with his best mate but it’s all grist for the mill. The whole thing is carried along on a flangey Johnny Marr strum and a tumbling, almost hip-hop drum pattern which underpins the track quite nicely. David Alexander also puts R&B style effects to good use on his vocals.

This song is extremely catchy to the extent that I would pray I had it on download as that is the only way I would stop myself throwing it out the window, but that’s a good thing right? Fans of chillwave, dreampop and of course the summer, hit rewind.
