Released as a free download on bandcamp to celebrate the name change of band Small Words to Patrick McCallion's Small Words, 'A Little Light Entertainment' is perhaps the most fitting name for a song I've heard in a long time. Not only does it describe the content of the song, but the impact and feel of it as well.
Buzzing by in under three minutes, it's a diverting guitar-pop track with some rolling folk elements which both bemoans and celebrates the impact of the internet and social media on society. The production is raw but clear and classy, and it's little wonder that smart lyrics like this have made it clear that the main songwriter's name should be in the band's name.
The orchestration though lacks in development once the initial ideas are out there. Sure, there's not far you can progress in under three minutes, but the lack of musical variation deems this a good fun track, but not much more.
