Review: 'Comes, Martijn'
'Infinite Spaces and Beyond'

-  Album: 'Infinite Spaces and Beyond' -  Label: 'iosound'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Catalogue No: 'IO/008'

Our Rating:
Described as ‘crystalline ambient / orbital IDM / interstellar techno’, the five tracks on ‘Infinite Space and Beyond’ – each aligned by title to a different type of field – Memory Field, Electric Field, Ultrasonic Field, etc. – lean toward big, heavily beat-driven sonic blasts, with scratchy swathes of crackly distortion coating jittery synth swirls.

‘The Silent Field’ offers some respite from the earth-shattering beats, a vast cyclical spiralling kaleidoscopic drone of a tune that rumbles and grumbles, grating oscillations shimmer and scrape in an endless sonic vortex. Heavy flanging and deep reverb creates the effect of drums in a tunnel, spinning in space, on ‘The Mirrored Field’ as bleeping tweets wow and flutter.

It’s an interesting release that really does transport the listener beyond the concrete realms of terra firma, and for that, it’s well worth a listen.
