Our Rating:
It may not be riot grrrl, but Skinny Girl Diet are grrrls and they do kick out a riotous punky racket. They go by the simple names of D, U and A. The guitar sound’s sludgy overdriven buzz that rips through the speakers and provides the perfect backdrop to the sneering vocals of A – or maybe it’s U or A. It’s not simply a six-track EP, but a summation of anger and disaffection, brimming with energy and bile: ’Hate You’ is a brilliantly direct burst of petulance.

‘Prozac Nation’ follows the classic quiet / loud grunge dynamic, and it does sound very like Hole (before they went crap with ‘Celebrity Skin’). It’s a great song ‘My heart, my heart’s not in it’ A (or U or A) drawls. If ‘Burnout’ has echoes of L7’s ‘Pretend We’re Dead’, it’s a grimier, snarlier, more abrasive slice of grunge pie.

Authentic, stroppy and punk to the core, this is music that gets the blood pumping, that doesn’t give fuck about trend or any of that crap. Please can I join the gang?
