Review: 'Bowl Ethereal'
'Bowl Ethereal (EP)'

-  Label: 'Southern Lord'
-  Genre: 'Heavy Metal' -  Release Date: '21st July 2014'

Our Rating:
‘Short, sharp shock’ would be one way to describe Bowl Ethereal’s eponymous EP. Originally released as a download, its official physical release sees the EP, originally entitled ‘Five Minutes’ augmented with an additional track, meaning it’s now got six tracks and a running time of six minutes.

What this means is that Bowl Etheral don’t just play hard and fast, they condense hard and furious into the most heavily concentrated sonic bombs. There’s no room to manoeuvre here. ‘Twenty Three Exciter Dreams’ crashes in, a chugging riff and dangerously busy lead guitar line underpinned with some skull-cracking percussion. Each song piles higher and harder onto the preceding one and compresses several movements into a thunderous chunk of noise that’s over in a heartbeat – meaning there’s no time to wonder if it would work better with vocals or not.
