Review: 'Acda, Chantal'
'Live in Dresden'

-  Album: 'Live in Dresden' -  Label: 'Gizeh Records'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '15th September 2014'

Our Rating:
Recorded on her European tour in support of her debut solo album,’Let Your Hands Be My Guide’, this limited release features six songs that showcase Acda’s delicate vocals and nuanced compositional skills. Although the musicians who collaborated on the studio release don’t appear here, she’s ably accompanied by Alan Gevaert (dEUS), Eric Thielemans & Gaetan Vandewoude (Isbells).

The recording is excellent, the quiet instrumentation crystal clear and you could be forgiven for thinking this was a studio session. the quality of the performance is similarly sublime. There isn’t much chatter from either side of the mic, and the focused, contemplative nature of the songs and their delivery is no doubt a factor in the audience’s respectful hush (the video footage from the show provides further evidence to support this).

Soft but detailed percussion is used sparingly, and the thoughtful arrangements mean the songs have a clear dynamic. It’s all magnificently understated, and shows Acda is more than capable of producing the same captivating atmosphere on stage as in the studio.
