Review: 'I AM KLOOT'
'FROM YOUR FAVOURITE SKY'

-  Label: 'ECHO'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '2nd February 2004'

Our Rating:
As you may already know, fantastic Mancunian trio I AM KLOOT'S eponymous second album was this writer's Album of 2003, so to expect him to do other than purely gush with praise over the release of one of its' very finest tracks as a single is perhaps a little naive.

So, if you've still not tuned into this frequency, what is there to really love about "From Your Favourite Sky"? OK; haunting guitar motifs with more than a touch of something diablo Latino about them; great, skewed but literary lyrical invective from Johnny Bramwell (soused in vitriol on the verses, tender and vulnerable at the chorus); the usual staggeringly dexterous rhythmic workout from bassist Peter Jobson and drummer Andy Hargreaves and one of those descending choruses that wills you to play it over and again. Believe me, I have. The attraction doesn't diminish.

"You dress like a dame, and you burn on a Catholic flame - by the hour," rasps Bramwell in his great East Manc twang as the anger, hurt and wisdom all kick in. Indeed, if you're after tales of lost love and weird liaisons set to drop dead gorgeous melodies and that all-important twisted lyrical bent, then - believe me - I Am Kloot are the best keepers of the flame right now. Don't take my word for it, though: investigate yourself. Here's a good place to start.
