It’s not hard to understand why comparisons to Dinosaur Jr and Yuck have been bandied around by other critics in reference to City Reign’s music. Strong, grunge-tinged guitars and emotionally weighted vocals are the defining features of ‘Disappear’. However, there’s a bleak undercurrent that adds a decidedly post-punk vibe to the track and brings a different hue of melancholy to proceedings. It works well.
‘When You Got It All’ boasts some soaring guitars and lively percussion and packs the same kind of energy and excitement as Editors when they first broke through with ‘Bullets’ and ‘Blood’.
Impressive stuff, and hopefully a good indicator of the momentum these guys are building.
