It’s no secret I’m no fan of remixes, and the fact that go nogo released their ‘New Folks’ EP as their firs entirely remix-free work is both noteworthy and laudable. That they’ve followed it with a bnch of remixes is... actually, not such a bad thing. They’ve found an eclectic bunch of remixers, including purveyors of electro-shoegaze Ummagma and the drummer of OMD, Matt Homes.
The result is a set of versions so different as to be barely distinguishable as the same song, which is ace. In addition to the three versions of ‘New Folks’, we have perfectly passable takes on ‘Let is Show’ and ‘Sweet Lullabye’ which work without a priori knowledge of the original versions. A work of electropop of solid quality, ‘New Folks Remixed’ is a success.
