Review: 'SPEEDY J/ LITERON'
'COLLABS 200'

-  Label: 'NOVAMUTE (12" single)'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '23rd February 2004'-  Catalogue No: '12NOMU 132'

Our Rating:
"Collabs 2002" is the second release in a series of three where SPEEDY J works with other, similarly eclectic producers. This one finds him in harness with Dutchman LITERON, working over two tracks of hard-edged techno.

Apparently, neither "Snacker" or "Kicker" (which actually date back to 1999) were originally scheduled for commercial consumption, but due to online file-sharing programmes, public interest has finally brought about a general release.

House fans won't be disappointed, either. "Snacker" is uber-minimal and twitchy, with pieces (not least the huge snare offbeats - a Speedy trademark) being added to the puzzle and dublike reverb and gating also entering the fray after a while. Its' other secret weapon is its' conclusion where a simmering climax of reverb-heavy white noise gradually peaks.

Second track "Knicker" is more traditional club fare. Very dancefloor-oriented, it sets out its' itchy stall pretty much straightaway and preens and pokes during a fast, fat-free five minutes. In all fairness, it's not really your reviewer's thang, though in the correct, controlled club environment, it couldn't really fail to score.
