Review: 'Bete Noire'
'Bile'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '27th July 2015'

Our Rating:
I was sold on the title alone (and it turns out they’ve got a knack for punchy titles, with previous single releases including ‘Shit Your Mouth’ and ‘Piss on Putin), so when I clocked the track being described as ‘spiky, edgy, sultry and downright infectious’ I hit a level of excitement almost on a par with Iain Duncan Smith on the announcement of the new ‘living wage’. But whereas he gets off on screwing over the needy and impoverished, I get my kicks from music that stimulates my senses.

‘Bile’ is most definitely stimulating: a nagging guitar weaves its way around a strolling bass, and together they provide the backdrop for some reverb-soaked vocals that ooze brattish insouciance in the coolest possible way. Combining the dark tension of early Interpol with the glamourous indie-pop savvy of Suede at their best, it’s a supremely exhilarating four and a half minutes.
