Review: 'BLUETONES, THE'
'Edinburgh, Liquid Rooms'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '19/3/02'

Our Rating:
This sold out gig was a pretty good one. THE BLUETONES rolled into town on the last night of their UK tour and filled the Liquid Room with an enthusiastic crowd who didn’t have to wait long for the chance to get into it.

They started off with “Solomon Bites The Worm” from the 1998 album “Return To The Last Chance Saloon” and kept the momentum going for the first four or five tracks before slowing it down with the excellent “Sleazy Bed Track” from the same disc.

From here on, they continued to jump around the albums, with the lion’s share of lip service paid to “Science And Nature” and “..Last Chance Saloon”. The evening’s technical hitch came with an abortive attempt to play “Bluetonic” from their 1995 debut, “Expecting To Fly”, which was a pity. However, it didn’t get in the way of anyone’s enjoyment, which peaked at the end with “If.”

It has to be said they weren’t as savagely good as they were the last time that touched down here at the end of the 2001 Edinburgh Festival. There wasn’t quite the same edge to the proceedings this time. But, as noted above, this was the tour’s last night and one must forgive the inevitable fatigue, which was generally worn well. The band was clearly having as much fun as the crowd.

THE BLUETONES are a good band that continue to write good songs. Get to know the tracks, go and see them and meet your mates down the front. They’re worth it.
