Review: 'Banaghan, Anton'
'Case Closed'

-  Label: 'Crashed Music'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '11th December 2015'

Our Rating:
It’s one of those heart-rending ‘boy-done-good’ stories that ITV love, a rags-to-riches tale of human strength and spirit, as well as talent and opportunity. Now 21, Anton was adopted by Irish parents aged two, and he’s had his share of troubles, including a now widely-publicised arrest for robbery when he was 18. But fast forward to 2015 and he’s ‘blowing the judges and audience away’ with a ‘soulful’ take on George Ezra’s ‘Budapest’, garnering comparisons to the likes of Sam Cooke and Ray La Montagne.

‘Anton Banaghan: from Romanian Orphan to X Factor’ – has all the hallmarks of a cockle-warming autobiography come Christmas 2016. And I have no desire to denigrate his achievements: he’s worked hard and achieved more by the age of 21 than many achieve in a lifetime. But this is cack. Mediocre piano-led singer-songwriter slop, it’s uninspired, uninspiring and forgettable. That’s not opinion, but fact. Case closed.
