The scribbly drawing of a nuclear explosion on the front cover perfectly indicates the themes of death and destruction and the ultimate annihilation of humanity which dominate the five tracks on offer here.
The ‘clean’ or ‘melodic’ vocals are far from the poppy tones you often find where bands do the contrasting dual vocal thing: still, Dylan Crinchen’s hollering style is less bowel-shaking than the savagely guttural growl of Chris Rossiter.
The ‘sinister’ breakdown in ‘Lurker’ feels a bit corny and try-hard, but the EP as a whole is focused on powerful riffs and a dense, grainy, gut-churning guitar sound. There’s a Sabbath vibe to ‘Right to Die’, and as a whole, ‘Humanity Burning’ sees Unheard Before the Wake bring the weight.
