Review: 'SOMERVILLE, JIMMY & JOHN WINFIELD'
'Lovers Unlimited EP'

-  Label: 'Hotplate Productions'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '20th February 2016'

Our Rating:
Dust off those glitterballs and get that white suit to the cleaners because Jimmy's back!

Following on from Somerville's 1970s-inspired Homage from 2014, the Barry White reference in the title of this EP suggest the one time smalltown boy's nostalgia for the golden age of disco hasn't reached its limit yet.

The five tracks, all penned by Somerville and long-time producer John Winfield, don't feature his distinctive falsetto vocals prominently but are instead interpreted by Sidney Bishop, The Faithettes (backing singers to Paloma Faith), Caroline Buckley, Matthew David and Gillian Wisdom.

It's all totally retro of course but the sweet soul is so tastefully rendered that you don't have to be a dancing fool to appreciate it.
