Review: '3 Inches Of Blood'
'Battlecry Under A Winter Sun'

-  Genre: 'Heavy Metal'

Our Rating:
Metal, Metal, Metal; 3 Inches of Blood are Metal. Unfashionable, uncomplicated, and unchained, ‘Battlecry Under a Winter Sun’ rocks. No it doesn’t ‘rawk’ in a Linkin Korn Bizkit way, it rocks like Maiden.

Put this on your hifi and you’ll suddenly be transported into a dark howling blizzard, chained horses galloping at you, a sword is drawn and then the guitars are unleashed. Originally a quintet from Victoria hardcore scene, vocalist Cam Pipes joined at the start of 2001.

Their first EP, recorded later 2000, then overdubbed with Cam’s newfound vocal talents, 3IOB have been causing a stir for some years. This their debut long-player is just as angry, rampant, and well METAL.

The six members thrash their guitars, pummel their drums, and scream in an ungodly fashion. Comparisons will be made to Judas Priest and Manowar but the biggest influence is Iron Maiden.

Supporting ‘The Darkness’ on their forthcoming tour, and then a short UK headlining tour follows. This Canadian 6-piece may not change the world, but they will make you dig out that tatty black leather jacket and bang your head like Beavis & Butthead high on speed, E numbers, and guitar solos.

So drink your beer, punch your fist into the air and grow your hair long; this is metal.

If you liked this, try:
Iron Maiden ‘Number of the Beast’
Megadeth ‘Rust in Peace’
Judas Priest ‘Priest…live’
