Our Rating:
Call it instinct or intuition. Put it down to a lifetime of listening to all kinds of music, including forced exposure to the direst of dire chart music and weak indie slop. Consider it a matter of taste. But sometimes, you just know, from the opening bars, even without observing the comparisons made by other publication to Red Hot Chilli Peppers, that a track is going to be awful. And so it is with ‘Oversold & Overdrawn’.
Something about that slappy bass sound instantly says ‘nasty’. That’s before the hackneyed funk-rock guitar enters the mix, and the whole hideous Reef -lite turdfest is completed with ‘soulful’ Ryan Kitto enunciating the hook as ‘oooversoowwd and oooverdrawwwwwn’. Heinous.
