Review: 'PALACE'
'So Long Forever'

-  Label: 'Fiction Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '4th November 2016'

Our Rating:
In recent years, Leo Wyndham's parents separated, a family member died and a relationship ended. No wonder that the singer feels down in the dumps.

His sadness, bordering on despair, seeps into all the songs and despite the steadfast 'life goes on' and 'be brave' messages, there are still many 'Why does it always rain on me?' moments.

Wyndham's voice is imploring yet soporific and strains towards Jeff Buckley-esque pathos although, almost inevitably, it falls well short.

On It's Over, he repeats the title 42 times in three and half minutes in the unlikely event that you missed the point.

The London quartet's debut full length was recorded in a "swanky-ish" studio in Hackney but instead of an extra coat of gloss, they sorely need an input of raw power to give a higher sense of urgency and greater emotional weight.

"I wanna burn in your fire", Wyndham sings on Break The Silence but the flames of passion on these eleven songs are so well under control that there are no feelings of danger or rekindled desire.
