Review: 'Indigo Bones'
'Indigo Bones (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '16th December 2016'

Our Rating:
Bands seem to be spilling out of Hull almost at the same rate as Leeds right now. These cities could deservedly be considered a northern powerhouse. There’s a logic to it: as the north-south divide becomes increasingly pronounced and the government seem ever more determined to strangle the north while protecting London, the fighting northern spirit rises. Rock has long been synonymous with dissatisfaction and disaffection, an outlet for frustrations and simply a thing to do. Indigo Bones aren’t a political band railing against socio-political injustice, but Indigo Bones most definitely are a rock band. And they look like a rock band.

The five songs on this debut EP are bursting with sneering, snarling attitude. Combining elements of hard rock and grunge, infused with a keen sense of melody, they offer a musical package with a broad appeal. ‘Delicate’ comes on like Mötley Crüe crossed with INXS, but don’t let that put you off. The songs are delivered with no shortage of thrust, but give the trappings and clichés of rock a wide berth, and on the whole, it’s a well above average effort.
