Review: 'AMBER ARCADES'
'Cannonball (EP)'

-  Label: 'Heavenly Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '2nd June 2017'

Our Rating:
Dutch born Annelotte De Graaf recorded this five-song EP during a two day break from a New York tour at Strange Weather Studio with producer Ben Greenberg.

Her Indie girl persona has roots in folk music but pop is her preferred medium.

The EP opens with Nick Drake's Which Will which is rendered practically unrecognizable since this melancholy lament is transformed into a cheery, carefree song.

It Changes continues in an upbeat vein. The broad theme seems to be that more things change the more they remain the same. To a jangly beat, the line "We'll be suckers till we're dead" sums up her devil may care philosophy.

The smoochy Can't Say That We Tried is more reflective, a mood consolidated with Wouldn't Even Know in which De Graaf duets with ex-Coral guitarist Bill Ryder-Jones.

Cannonball, the title track, maintains the impression that Amber Arcades would make a decent reincarnation of a 1960s girl group if she found a few mates to sing with her.
