Review: 'Vincent'
'Vincent'

-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: 'May 2004'

Our Rating:
Let's not beat about the bush here, Vincent are what most young three-piece bands aspire to be. They are brash, punky newcomers with good songs and a good sound. Think good New York, new-wave punk without the whiny vocals.

The CD kicks off with 'The Vincent Plan', a catchy-as-hell, punchy little number which serves as a great introductory track for both the EP and the band. Straight away the punk ideals of Vincent show themselves – The line "We might as well just go to sleep or get plastered/ 'cause we're the lazy bastards" Suggests that the most strenuous activity they engage in besides gigging is collecting their giro cheque.

Next is the slinky 'Like a Belvedere' – this one has a ‘Jilted John’ feel. Like ‘The Vincent Plan’, this bad-boy sticks in your head for weeks. The EP finishes with 'Six/Eight', funnily enough in 6/8, which has the best guitar work of the three tracks. The song-writing is of a high standard and the time changes are well executed; the same goes for drums and bass throughout. It wouldn’t be surprising if Vincent started making their way to you via your CD player in the near future.

The only real negative about this EP is that it would be nice to hear more of them. With the songs being as punchy and short as they are, three tracks just isn’t enough. However, according to their website they are recording again soon, so expect to hear more from them in the near future.
