Yes, you're not cracking up if you seem to remember us having previously reviewed this one. "The Quiet Things That No-One Ever Knows" was previously out on limited 7" vinyl, apparently with only 600 copies pressed and we did stick it through the shredder back then.
Sadly, it doesn't really fare any better when released on grown up CD single with extra tracks now that BRAND NEW'S profile has risen considerably in the UK and they've been doing the arena business with the excruciating Incubus.
True, I'll grant you Brand New's "Deja Entendu" album was a cut above the usually wince-worthy Less Than Jake/ Rival Schools Emo brigade, but "The Quiet Things..." was never one of its' better bets, so why they feel it should be a single a second time is mystifying. Let's racap: it's got the bog standard explosive opening, the de rigeur chugging chords and (yawno) the requisite gnarly shouting at the chorus. Sigh....Mmm, that fence really does need creosoting today. Pity the stuff stinks so bad when you apply it.....

Oh sorry...must've switched off there for a sec. Where were we? Oh, yeah, Brand New...right. Well, after the dullsville that is "The Quiet Things..." they have a crack at redeeming themselves with two acoustic tracks recorded at a party "without the use of any real recording gear." Hmm. Still, full marks for recording a cover of the great Built To Spill's "Car", which naturally ain't as good as the original, but does possess a fairly becoming, raggedy Neil Young kinda vibe and is an improvement of sorts, though the closing "Moshi Moshi" is forgettable within minutes.
In conclusion then, hardly enough to convince the discerning doubters, and your reviewer still falls into that category. Better luck next time lads.
