Review: 'Black Lips'
'Sing In A World That’s Falling Apart'

-  Label: 'Fire Records / Vice'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '24th January 2020'

Our Rating:
Renowned, revered, and reviled in equal measure for their wild antics on stage and hard living off stage, Black Lips somehow hit their 20th anniversary, and mark the arrival of a new decade with their ninth album.

The band reckon ‘Sing In A World That’s Falling Apart’ finds them “at their grimiest, most dangerous and equipped with the best collection of songs since the aughts”.

How? I don’t get it. There’s an abundance of bog-standard country on offer here… and not much else. Well, there are hints of gospel, some shades of blues, and even a dash of 60s psych pop, but all spun around roister-doister lowest-common-denominator country twanging.

And, put bluntly, both objectively and subjectively, and with or without its contentious lyrics, it’s shite.
