Review: 'Braga, Rita'
'Tremble Like a Ghost'

-  Genre: 'Soul' -  Release Date: '12th March 2020'

Our Rating:
Rita Braga’s biography is impressive: Born in Lisbon in 1985, she’s a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, who performs songs in over 10 languages, and over the past decade, she’s performed across Europe, the US, Brazil, Australia and Japan.

‘Tremble Like a Ghost’ has a vintage, vaudeville vibe, a quivering organ and sparse but lively beat providing the backdrop for Rita’s soulful, trilling vocal. Her style is distinctive and very much rooted the jazz and swing of the 20s and 30s, and as such, is highly evocative of a bygone age. With the lyrics running through the decades and referencing back to the 80s, the time continuum is contextually skewed in a song haunted by history. Crafted and catchy, Braga’s singularity stands out in an age dominated by mass-production and second-rate rehashes or recently-retro periods.
