Review: 'EJECTORSEAT'
'A SEDATIVE FOR MISERY (demo EP)'

-  Label: 'www.ejectorseat.co.uk'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'JULY 2004'

Our Rating:
A four-piece rock band from the heart of Derbyshire, EJECTORSEAT clearly have their eye on the wider market. Not conforming to the overly style-conscious local gig scene they have instead concentrated on creating a name for themselves on the London circuit.

This demo ep, "A Sedative For Misery" showcases what Ejectorseat are all about – they’re not doing anything radically different or groundbreaking but they’re definitely doing it well!

From the first track, "Been Put To Sleep", their trusty formula of uplifting and rocky, serrated guitar riffs, is coupled with a truly memorable knack for catchy melody. A band of real music fans, Ejectorseat ooze with diverse influences, recalling Manic Street Preachers, Idlewild, Nine Inch Nails and (yes) Metallica to these ears.

The problem with influences is that, by definition, we’ve heard it all before, but this doesn’t seem to apply to Ejectorseat. They rise above the monotony and mire of the chart rock scene and manage to become much more than the sum of their parts. Singer Pete’s voice is unusually clear and adds a fresh twist to their dark and compelling lyrics. Each track is wonderfully multi-textured, with moments of hard rock and hushed melody combining to create a carefully-crafted whole.

Ejectorseat are an un-self-conscious honest rock band and combining an essence of tradition with energy all of their own they result in a sound which is totally contemporary. They openly acknowledge their influences, knowing that they’re above par in the talent stakes.

My only criticism would be that this EP does not capture the essence of Ejectorseat at their very best. As a band they’re driven by a live audience and this seems to be their great passion. "A Sedative For Misery" sounds great and is professionally produced, but it does lack some of the unique energy which really sets this band apart from their peers. Judging by the gigging miles already clocked up though, Ejectorseat should be coming to a town near you very soon. Be sure to check them out.
