Our Rating:
Mind Maintenance is an instrumental album that does what you'd expect it too with that name, as Joshua Abrams and Chad Taylor take listener on a journey into self discovery in a very new age kind of way on an album where they play African instruments guimbri and mbira.

The album opens with Glow & Glimmer that sets up nicely where this album goes as a long piece of new age meditation and relaxation music to stretch and zone out too, the bass keeps everything on a tight rhythm along with the ever-repeating drum pattern and the Xylophone like sounds that help give this all a slightly Gamelan feel to it.

Entrainment sort of floats into your brain and you slowly stretch out and leave all your daily worries behind you with the almost ticking clock feel to the rhythm pattern helping you to float off until it feels like it winds down as we start to climb The Ladder a more gently mesmeric piece that has echoes of Pharoah Sanders work with the Master Musicians Of Jajouka.

Snap Yr Teeth is time for some jaw exercises and perfect to masticate in time too. Cyclic Boom is as circular as the title suggests and you may wish to curl up into a ball to listen too it properly as you stretch back and into that ball once more.

Valence is ready to check the Valency of your mind as you try to find equilibrium and peace and this music will help you meditate deeply and find the balance.

Slack Water should be perfect for some ritual bathing and gentle cleansing in a room full of oil burners and incense and the water gently drips down.

Complete Rain is a tune for our flood ridden times as that complete rain falls and washes everything away in it's path we can all consider how to wash away our pain and navigate a better way forwards as the song pitter patters into you brain.

The piece closes with Mental Eyes that you just might have from how deeply you've been meditating, this is a soft landing to complete your journey at the end of a good 46 minutes of Mind Maintenance.
