Review: 'BARRON, BRIAN'
'Junkie Boy (single)'

-  Label: 'Red Lane Records'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '19th November 2021'

Our Rating:
This chilling two minute lullaby to addiction is a bittersweet taster to a forthcoming sophomore album titled, The World Keeps Turning (the follow up to 2019’s ‘Century of the Self’). Jane Eleanor provides backing vocals.

The PR for the single states that the Irish singer could be singing about more than just heroin but the lyrics and the graphic cover image of the needle and the damage being done leave no doubt that this is the main subject.

With hollow eyes and bones as brittle as sticks, the addict Barron sings about is in a bad way. Not only has he been rejected by family and family but he’s sleeping rough “at night the concrete is where you lay your head.” Any warnings are implicit in these details although Barron is not taking any lofty moral position.
