Review: '22 Oceans'
'Home'

-  Label: '72rpm Records/Bandcamp'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '22.2.22'

Our Rating:
22 oceans are a synth pop trio based in Liverpool and the brainchild of Mike Guy who has been joined by Carys and Keeley Hughes who are twin sisters. This single is raising money for the homeless charity Stonepillow who offer support and services for the homeless in and around Chichester and Arun and West Sussex.

The ep opens with Home a gentle song of wanting to be back in a Home of your own once more feeling safe, while you look for that one elusive way Home as you reflect on how you reached the place your currently in.

Drifting has a pulsing beat and gentle synths for the twin vocals of Carys and Keeley Hughes to sing over like the voices of angels who have found a way to stop drifting and drop anchor and feel safe and secure once more.

Rebroken is a slightly downbeat list song of all the things you need to leave behind to get to a better place, be it your own bad habits or the bad habits of those around you, with a synth sound that recalls early China Crisis, the vocal line has an awareness of how they have ended up where they are, but they need help in turning things around.

Home (Marc Joy-LTC Remix) strips things back musically to a very sparse landscape as the crystalline vocal harmonies deliver the message of hope that things will improve and that help can be found.
The Ep closes with Home (West Coast Music Club mix) that strips out the synths and leaves a gently strummed folk take on this song that is rather effective and hopefully will help bring solace to some of the people they are hoping to help towards a more settled life.
