Our Rating:
Hypnopomp is the debut album by Detroit based artist Katie Lass, Katie's own artwork for the cover gives a little hint of the weird and other worldly nature of this album, that sounds unlike almost anything you've heard before, a peculiarly charming album.

The A-side opens slowly and carefully with Can You Take Me Back a cover of the Paul McCartney song that thankfully sounds nothing like the original, this version has a chiming feel to it as Katie repeats the question.

Luster has a rumbling bass, underwater sounds with ethereal whispered vocals, it almost feels like it was recorded in a closet.

Hippopompamus emerges slightly from the murk with a repetitive riff set against floaty vocals. Ctan6 floats in and out weirdly unsure of what it wants to be, lurking in the shadows.

Non-pop is as far from pop as can be, like Miss Murgatroid on bad acid and Adderall cocktails. Sunshine 1 almost feels like a normal summer song, but the skittery drums, weird noises, barely their vocals help keep things at the well odd end of things.

Claw feels like you are being raked over the coals, with no way to stop it and you're unsure if you like what's happening or not.

The B-side opens with Seaweedhead that has odd background noises, with Katies vocals coming through the walls indistinctly... Pin & Ripple has vocals that are as opaque, as is the slowly revolving music.

Porous rags could be a description of what they've recorded, weird, odd sounds for dystopian times in the experimental chill out zone.

Long Window has actually understandable vocals, with water running down those windows. Bells chime against sparse noises for disarming feelings.

Eidolon Orbit is a ghostly apparition from the dark recesses of a troubled soul. The album closes with Swear Chasm as oddness is embraced, while the weird noises aggravate and disorientate the guitar enervates.
