‘We’ve Already Said Goodbye’ is taken from the forthcoming debut full-length album by That Summer, due out in 2023. The track – pitched as ‘an elegiac ballad about a relationship that was doomed from the start’ – marks the first collaboration between That Summer and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers drummer, Steve Ferrone, and also features Max Bergmanis (Peter McPoland).
The title really does capture in a nutshell both the essence and the mood of resignation. You know it, and you feel it. And this song conveys it, through the medium of a classic slice of US country-tinged rock: mid-tempo, melodic, easy on the ear, downtempo but not too downtempo – you could drive along to this quite nicely.
